Tips for moving house
The practical side of moving, gathered from years of helping people through it.
Start a contact list
Keep a running list of everyone who needs your new address. Banks, insurers, your employer, the electoral roll, subscriptions. Tick them off as you go.
Sort utilities early
Arrange power, gas, water, and internet at the new place before moving day, and disconnection at the old one. A week of notice is usually plenty.
Pack smart
Label boxes by room, not just contents. Keep one first-night box with chargers, toiletries, and a kettle. Use proper boxes for linen, not bags that tear.
